Purpose
JM Surveys carry out forensic surveys for forensic engineers all over Ireland. Forensic surveys are typically carried out at the locus of a road traffic collision, often within days of the event. These surveys can be carried out to the individual requirements of the engineer based on the circumstances of the collision etc.
Our survey can pick up any gouge marks, tyre marks or Garda paint marks that may still exist on the road surface at the locus. We can accurate represent all road markings and signage, evidence of collision damage or repairs to walls or other structures, road drainage features etc.
We can provide cross-sections (measuring superelevation or crossfall), longitudinal sections, radius of curvature of a bend and accurate measurement of sightlines. In cases where ‘ponding’ or inadequate road drainage may be a factor in a collision we can detect and show the extent of flat spots or depressions with reference to spot levels.
We then present the completed survey drawing in paper copy (or in electronic format if desired) plotted to an easily legible scale (typically 1:500 or 1:250 on A3, A2 or A1) with all relevant dimensions (e.g. lane widths etc.) and other salient features clearly indicated so that it can be used in court as an effective aid in explaining the factors that are likely to have contributed to the collision.
